A new home for your United Way – Three things you may not know

Recently, United Way of Winnipeg moved into a new home at 580 Main Street. We’re now working in the heart of Winnipeg’s downtown, closer to many of our community partners and a lot of the work we’re supporting every day.

Three Things You Might Not Know About The New United Way Space:

No annual campaign dollars were used for the project

  • Construction was funded entirely through Province of Manitoba & Government of Canada stimulus grants – CentreVenture and the City of Winnipeg supported the project, too
  • What wasn’t covered by grants was made up for by a small group of long-time United Way supporters

It’s cost efficient

  • The building represents cost-savings to United Way based on comparable leasing options.
  • The new building was designed to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards, lowering operating costs AND helping the environment.

It’s about community

  • The main floor is home to a community learning centre where groups can get together to work on the issues that are most important to the people of Winnipeg
  • New not-for-profits and social entrepreneurs will have access to “incubation space” that will help them do innovative work until they’re ready to branch out on their own

If you have any questions about United Way’s new space, please call us at 477-5360. We’ll look forward to hearing from you!

I would like to raise awareness on behalf of a friend who was recently killed on main street and Higgins. On June 13 . I would like to raise money to be able to reopen 35 buildings that are closed to the community and in reopening them I hope to stop poverty and bring back main street as a safer place to live if you can help me do a pancake breakfast to raise funds

Hi Tiffany – we were very sorry about the accident earlier this week and we’re sorry for your loss.

I’ve passed your email address along and one of United Way’s staff will be in touch.

    Take care.
